THIS IS HOW WE DO IT

The feelings, thoughts, and reflections of Justin De Leon

At about 12:30AM we received a knock on the door. With the current situation regarding the police shootings and the possibility that the suspect might be at large in the U-District, we reluctantly opened the door. Outside was a man who had claimed he was a new neighbor who locked himself outside his apartment. He called a locksmith but he had to pay him before his door could be opened. He needed 8 more dollars to fit the bill, he said he will pay us back when he got inside his apartment. Just as a general rule, when a complete stranger asks for money I do not give him any. However my roommates generously gave him $8.

It is now 3:40 in the morning and he hasn’t come back. Oh and, I haven’t been up to wait for the guy, I’ve just been studying. My roommates long already submitted to the fact that they’ve been scammed. Now they will think twice about helping someone out like that. Unfortunately this is the case for a lot of people now, but what happens if a complete stranger who genuinely needs help asks you for help? Survey says you’ll probably reject them.

I believe con artists such as these have ruined the Good Samaritan in all of us. However to those who have retained this helpfulness: cheers to you and I hope karma goes your way.
